Table of Content
Two of our favorite things in summer are mint lemonade (also called limonana) and watermelon juice. Sometimes, I mix the two together and make it a bit more refreshing.
Why make this drink?
- It's a fun and refreshing summer drink!
- And it really takes just minutes to make your own drink from scratch.
- Also, most of the ingredients are easy to find or pantry staples.
- The one thing I like about this drink is that I can use less sugar compared to lemonade because watermelon is much sweeter and has a stronger flavor and taste of watermelon.
- Sometimes, I freeze watermelon balls to use instead of ice cubes. It looks so much prettier when serving to guests.
- Straining the juice gives the drink a pretty deep red color and a sweeter drink.
- It's a crowd-pleaser. You can make one drink for yourself or a large pitcher to feed a crowd. (details below)
- This is a non-alcoholic drink but you can just as well add some vodka or rum to make this a refreshing summer cocktail.

Ingredients and substitutes
- Watermelon - The best watermelons are the ones that are bright red and juicy. A good practice is to let the grocer cut and check before you buy so you know that you're a good one. I like to strain the pureed watermelon through a fine mesh strainer because it looks nicer and it's smoother to drink. Having said that, the pulp is good fiber and good for you.
- Lemon juice - There is nothing more refreshing than fresh lemon juice. You can also use lime juice. I like to use Meyer lemons.
- Sugar - I am using white sugar but simple syrup or honey works just as well. Adjust the sweetness depending on how sweet the watermelon is.
- Liquid - I like to use sweet sparkling water so I can omit the sugar but you can also use classic sparkling water or plain water.
- Garnish - I usually use fresh lemon wedges, watermelon wedges, or fresh basil or mint leaves. You can also use the curled lemon rind.
