  1. Hi Veena,
I have just made 3 layers of your 9″ x 13″ chocolate cake for carving as I want to try and carve a Ford Focus RS. I put the cakes well wrapped i the freezer for a few days and defrosted them in their wrappings in the fridge to begin carving and decorating. Unfortunately, I was not able to begin the project as anticipated so have left the cakes in the fridge. I took them out of the freezer 4 days ago. Will they be Ok for using now and/or how long will they be OK for eating for if I start carving and decorating them now? I’m filling them with vanilla american buttercream, covering in chocolate ganache and then fondant. Would the decorated, sealed cake last a week or two once its finished?

    1. Hey Maria.
It is good that you put the cakes in the freezer. A cake made from scratch has a long shelflife but I’d say about 5 to 6 days. Since your cake was frozen I’d say it will buy you an extra day. Make sure to keep the cake in the fridge at all times though.

  2. Hi Veela
I am going to make a beetle cake may I ask for how many serving did you do and did you get image from blueprints and resize it.
    Thanks

    1. Zaheer. This cake was small and served about 12 to 15 people. I used a sheet cake.
I would say make the cake a small size and have extra cake on the side if you are new to cake decorating.
Yes, I looked for car templates on google and then resized it on Powder Point to make this size.
      Thanks

      1. Thanks Veena for your prompt reply
Would you mind to suggest that what difference of proportion of size did you keep in mind when did resizing.
Or what size of your cake(in width/length)
        Thanks in advance

        1. I just used an A4 size paper to print as my template and made the cake based on that design. I didn’t want a big cake.

This is really useful – thank you! In the final pictures it looks like the body of the car is raised off the ‘floor’ – is this the case and if so how did you achieve this?
    Thank you!
    Alex

    1. Yes, Alex. I used a piece/strip of foam core under the cake board that keep the cake a few inches above the base board. Then I put the wheels. The foam core creates the gap and looks like the car is on its wheels . Hope that makes sense.

  4. where can i get this template

    1. If you just type the name (model) of the car you looking for on google – you will get lots of options. Then just print to size you need. Write car body templates to see what I mean.

Hi! How do you get the cake raised, like in the final picture – it looks like the car is standing on the wheels (with no cake at the bottom)?
