Chicken Wrap with Avocado Recipe
These chicken and avocado wraps are fresh, creamy, and flavorful. Whether made with leftover roast chicken for a lighter bite or crispy breaded chicken for extra crunch, they’re perfect for a quick meal. The creamy dressing ties everything together for a delicious and satisfying wrap.

In our house, pita pockets and tortilla wraps are a staple, especially for my son. They’re his favorite because they’re easy to eat and mess-free, making them perfect for school lunches or grabbing on the go before his workouts. His go-to chicken options are always roast chicken or crispy breaded chicken schnitzel, so I make sure to have both ready in the freezer at all times.
And no matter what sandwich or wrap we make, avocado is always a must—it’s our family favorite and the one ingredient we can never skip! Whether I’m packing his lunch or making a quick wrap for myself, this combination always hits the spot.
Why is this Chicken and Avocado Wrap the best recipe
- Versatile & Customizable – You get two options in one recipe: one with leftover roast chicken for a lighter bite and another with crispy breaded chicken for extra crunch. Plus, you can switch up the veggies or add extras like cheese or bacon.
- Balanced & Nutritious – Packed with protein from the chicken, healthy fats from avocado, fiber from fresh veggies, and a creamy yet light dressing, this wrap is a satisfying meal that keeps you full without feeling heavy.
- Quick & Easy – Perfect for busy days! Whether using precooked roast chicken or quick-breaded chicken, the wraps come together in minutes with minimal prep. The dressing is also simple yet flavorful with pantry staples.
- Great for Meal Prep & On-the-Go – These wraps hold well, making them ideal for lunchboxes, meal prep, or an easy grab-and-go meal. The two folding styles let you choose between a neat, handheld wrap or a convenient cut-and-share version.

Key Ingredients & Substitutes
- Chicken: Use leftover roast chicken for a quick option or breaded chicken for a crispy bite. You can also use grilled chicken, rotisserie chicken, shredded turkey, or even tofu for a vegetarian version.
- Avocado: Adds creaminess and healthy fats. Try guacamole, mashed avocado, hummus, or sliced boiled eggs for a similar texture if unavailable.
- Tortillas: Soft flour tortillas work best, but you can substitute with whole-wheat tortillas, spinach wraps, gluten-free wraps, or even pita bread. You can also use homemade whole wheat Tortillas or Indian Chapati.
- Lettuce: Provides a fresh crunch. Substitute with baby spinach, arugula, mixed greens, or shredded cabbage for variety.
- Cucumber: Adds a refreshing crunch. You can swap it with zucchini strips, bell pepper slices, or shredded carrots for extra color and texture.
- Cherry Tomatoes: Bring a juicy, slightly sweet contrast. Substitute with regular tomatoes (deseeded and sliced), sun-dried tomatoes, or roasted red peppers.
- Dressing (Mayo, Mustard, Honey, Yogurt, Salt, Pepper):
- Mayonnaise: Can be replaced with Greek yogurt, sour cream, or mashed avocado for a lighter dressing.
- Mustard: Dijon works best, but you can use honey mustard, whole grain mustard, or a dash of vinegar for tang.
- Honey: Balances flavors. Swap with maple syrup or a pinch of brown sugar.
- Yogurt: Adds creaminess. Use sour cream, buttermilk, or a dairy-free yogurt alternative.

Step-by-step: Chicken and Avocado Wrap
- Make the Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, yogurt, mustard, honey, salt, and pepper until smooth. Set aside.
- Prepare the Tortillas: Heat the tortillas in a dry pan or over an open flame for a few seconds on each side until warm and pliable.

- Assemble the first Wraps: For the first wrap (with leftover roast chicken): Spread some dressing over the tortilla. Layer with lettuce, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, and avocado. Add shredded roast chicken. Season with salt and pepper. Roll the wrap, leaving one end open.
- For the second wrap (with breaded chicken pieces): Spread some dressing on the tortilla. Add lettuce, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and avocado. Place the crispy breaded chicken pieces on top. Season with salt and pepper. Roll the wrap completely and cut it in half.
- Serve & Enjoy: Serve immediately or wrap tightly in parchment paper for an on-the-go meal.

Frequently asked questions
Yes! If making them ahead, store the dressing separately and add it just before eating to prevent soggy tortillas. You can also layer lettuce first as a barrier before adding other ingredients.
Absolutely! Rotisserie chicken, grilled chicken, or even shredded poached chicken all work well. If you love crispy wraps, air-fried chicken tenders are a great option too.

Notes
- Warm the Tortillas – Heating the tortillas for a few seconds in a dry pan or over an open flame makes them more flexible, preventing cracking when wrapping.
- Use Ripe Avocado – A perfectly ripe avocado adds creaminess and blends well with the dressing. If your avocado is too firm, mash it slightly before adding it to the wrap.
- Keep the Wraps from Getting Soggy – If making ahead, spread the dressing on the chicken instead of the tortilla to prevent moisture from softening the wrap. Alternatively, layer lettuce first as a barrier.
- For Crispy Chicken, Keep it Fresh – If using breaded chicken, let it cool slightly before adding it to the wrap. This prevents steam from making it soggy.
- Season Every Layer – Lightly salt and pepper the veggies and avocado to enhance their natural flavors rather than relying only on the dressing.
- Secure the Wrap Properly – For the open-ended wrap, tuck in the bottom slightly before rolling to keep fillings from falling out. For the cut-in-half wrap, wrap it tightly in parchment paper before slicing for a cleaner cut.
- Customize to Taste – Add cheese, bacon, pickled onions, or extra crunch with nuts or seeds for variation.
