Green Smoothies
Green smoothies are a delicious and easy way to pack essential nutrients into your day. They combine leafy greens, fruits, and hydrating ingredients for a refreshing boost of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Perfect for detoxing, energizing, or simply enjoying a healthy treat!

Ever since I hit menopause, I’ve struggled with maintaining a healthy weight. This life transition prompted me to take a closer look at my diet and lifestyle. I realized that while I had been focusing on eating what I thought was healthy, there were gaps in how I nourished my body, especially when it came to balancing nutrients and energy levels throughout the day.
Mornings used to always be about oatmeal—quick, easy, and comforting. But as I learned more about incorporating greens and antioxidants into my diet, I decided to add a glass of green juice or a smoothie between breakfast and lunch. This simple addition has made a world of difference. It’s not just about the weight; it’s about how energized and balanced I feel. The fiber keeps me full, the vitamins and minerals give me energy, and it’s become a ritual I genuinely look forward to every day.

Green smoothies can be low in sugar and fat, depending on the ingredients you use. Ingredients like avocado or coconut milk add healthy fats, but these can be adjusted or replaced with lighter options, such as almond milk or plain water, to suit dietary preferences.
Start with a sweeter recipe by adding more fruit and less greens. For example, pineapple and mango work well to mask the taste of spinach.
Green smoothies are endlessly customizable. Here are some easy swaps and ideas:
Greens: Replace spinach with kale, Swiss chard, or even parsley for variety.
Fruits: Use berries, mangoes, or peaches instead of apples or bananas.
Liquids: Try almond milk, oat milk, or plain water if you’re out of coconut water.
Add-Ons: Supercharge your smoothie with spirulina, matcha, or collagen powder.
Texture: For a thicker smoothie, add avocado or Greek yogurt.

Freeze as a Whole Smoothie: Blend your green smoothie, pour it into freezer-safe jars or resealable bags, and freeze. Then, thaw overnight in the fridge and shake or stir well before drinking.
Freeze as Smoothie Packs: Prep the ingredients in individual freezer bags. When you’re ready, just add liquid and blend straight from the freezer.

Notes
- Start with a Balanced Base: Combine leafy greens, a fruit for sweetness, and a liquid like coconut water or almond milk. This creates a perfect blend of nutrients and flavor.
- Experiment with Add-ons: Boost the nutrition with extras like chia seeds, flaxseeds, or protein powder. A tablespoon of nut butter, such as peanut butter or almond butter, can also add creaminess and healthy fats.
- Blend in Stages: First, blend the greens and liquid to ensure they’re well incorporated, then add fruits and extras.
- Use Frozen Ingredients: Frozen fruits not only chill your smoothie but also add a creamy texture without the need for ice. I love using frozen bananas, mango, pineapple, raspberries, or veggies like baby spinach and collard greens.
- Adjust for Sweetness: If your smoothie isn’t sweet enough, add half a banana, a splash of honey, or a couple of dates.
