  1. Hi Veena,
    I’m constantly having trouble with gritty/grainy buttercream. No matter what I try, I can’t get it completely smooth. I’ve tried all the tips you’ve mentioned above – adding more liquid, resting, mixing longer, ensuring I have the right powdered sugar, changing ratios, order of mixing ingredients – and although it improves it, there is still some level grittiness/graininess. It’s getting incredibly frustrating!! If it makes any difference I use a Breville “The Scraper” stand mixer, with the paddle attachment.
    If there is anything else you can suggest, or any specific tips in the process of making the buttercream, I’d greatly appreciate it.

    1. Kate, perhaps you should check your powdered sugar – make sure you use powdered sugar made from cane sugar not beet sugar. No matter how much you whip beat sugar tends to stay gritty. I hope this helps
