Blueberry Mojito
Blueberry in mojitos offers a new way to enjoy your favorite cocktail. The blueberry mojito recipe is an excellent summer drink in which mint, lime, and blueberries combine in a sweet blue cocktail.

Summer is here, so it’s time to make mojitos! Right? A Mojito is a classic rum-based drink. It has a sweet, minty taste and is fun to make. Fruits like blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries can be tossed into this classic drink to jazz it up. However, these fruits make the Mojito less sweet and add more fruity flavor complexity.
A classic mojito is served with a sugar cane stick to show that it’s a sweet drink, but today we’ve used blueberries and mint.
Why make your own mojitos?
- It’s easy and fun. It really takes just minutes to make your own drink from scratch.
- Most of the ingredients are easy to find or pantry staples.
- Of course, fresh blueberries are the best, but feel free to use frozen blueberries too.
- And it’s a crowd-pleaser. You can make one drink for yourself or a large pitcher for a crowd.
- Of course, if you’re serving a crowd, make more than one choice of mojitos – try a strawberry mojito too!

Ingredients and substitutes
- Sweet blueberries – The tartness of the blueberries helps cut down the sweetness of the sugar. For a single drink, I like to crush the berries with a muddle. But when making a pitcher, I use a blender. And the drink with the blender also gets a deeper color.
- Rum – Ideally, mojitos are made with good-quality white rum (it does not have to be expensive).
- Sugar – My personal preference for cocktails is simple syrup, but most people don’t usually have sugar syrup lying around. So it’s also just easy to use white sugar. And to make a simple syrup, boil sugar and water in a small saucepan until the sugar is fully dissolved. To make it sugar-free, you can add sweeteners.
- Juice – I’ve always used tart lime juice to make the classic mojitos. But I think lemon juice also works wonderfully with blueberries.
- Mint – Fresh mint leaves add a nice refreshing flavor to the drink, but you can omit them, or any herb, if you do not like them in your drink.
- Vanilla – Is typically used in traditional mojitos, but I don’t usually use it in my fruit combos.
- Water – You can use sparkling water or club soda. I often like to use tonic water or ginger ale, but you can also simply use tap water.
- Garnish – I like to use fresh blueberries, a lime slice, lemon wedges, and mint or basil leaves.

Step-by-step: Blueberry mojitos recipe
One drink
- Add the blueberries, lemon juice, sugar, and mint leaves to a cocktail shaker and muddle them with a wooden muddler.
Pro tip – Bashing with the muddle will remove all the blueberry juice and mint oils, while the sugar will dissolve in the lemon juice. If you don’t have a muddle, you can use the end of a wooden spoon. - Add the rum and stir well. Then, strain into a tall glass filled with ice cubes and top with sparkling water. Garnish with more blueberries, lemon slices, and mint leaves.
Pro tip – Straining will leave the mashed blueberry skins and mint leaves behind.
Pitcher (6 drinks)
- To a blender, add the blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and a few mint leaves. Pour into a large pitcher and add the rum. Stir well to combine. Keep chilled until ready to use.
Pro tip – You can prepare this base a few hours ahead of time and leave it in the refrigerator to chill. - When ready to serve, top the pitcher with sparkling water or club soda. Pour into tall glasses with ice cubes. Garnish with more mint leaves, lime wedges, and fresh blueberries.
Pro tip – For those who do not want the mashed fruit, you can strain it out.

Frequently asked questions
Once you add the sparkling water, it is best to drink it immediately. But you can make the base (before adding the sparkling water) and keep it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
I believe mojitos are originally from Havana, Cuba. But they say the origin is still up for debate.
