Can o ise butter instead of vegetable shortening

    1. I think you can use butter but it will change the color of the gumpaste. Veg shortening would work perfectly.

hi i live in a tropical country how do i dry my gum paste flowers because they go limp every time i make them

    1. You can dry the flowers in an oven. Leave the oven off with the light on. That will help them dry faster. (no heat just the light) Or use a dehidrater

Hello, may I know can I skip cream of tartar and light corn syrup ? Because I don’t have this two ingredients, is it have any problem without them ?
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
    Thanks

    1. Yes Jacqueline you can omit the cream of tartat and light corn syrup. I think it will still work. If you have glucose syrup try using that it may help with consistency

      1. Hello please my gumpaste is not stretchy. What am I doing wrong?

        1. Did you let it rest Eve? Are you using CMC or Tylose powder? Check the quality of the tylose powder and expiration date.
Also do not add too much powdered-sugar, it will not give you any stretch and the gum paste will be very brittle.

I tried making the gumpaste, using wiltons gum tex the color is not white, I used 6tblsp tylose (gumtex) I had only large eggs had to use a little more sugar. Wondering how this will affect the finished product tomorrow. My gumpaste is not white it has a tannish color.I rest it in the refrigerator until tomorrow. Want it to make my first gumpaste shoes. Hope it will work.

Luceta. I think that is a lot of tylose – It’s suppose to be 30 grams which I think is 2 tbsp. The original color is usually not white so if you plan to make white flowers do add white gel paste. Otherwise add the other colors directly when needed. Thanks

    1. Margaret – so sorry your message got directed to the Spam folder. you can add color at any point in the making – I just make the normal non colored gum paste then add color to small batches as I need them
