  1. I’m stacking an 8 inch tall cake that is 6 inches in diameter on top of another 8 inch tall cake that is 10 inches in diameter . What is the best method of stabilizing this cake ? Semi naked with cream cheese buttercream filling . Also, won’t the dowels mess up the cake slices? How to avoid this when needing to follow precise cutting chart for serving size number? Thankyou !

    1. Nicole. Doweling is necessary. Otherwise, the cake will not hold. So, when cutting, you have to take them out. I would frost both cakes, then chill them thoroughly so the frosting is firm when I touch them.
Mark the top and dowel the bottom cake. For the measurements you have you will also need a center dowel through both the cakes to prevent them from shifting.

Hello Veena thank you for a straightforward tutorial but ive got a question..sorry if its sounds silly.if each top tier sits on a card on its own how do i enter the long centred dowel down to each cake? Thank you!

    1. Nicoletta. The job of the center dowel is to keep the two cakes in place which means it needs to go through the two cakes and right into the board. That is what anchors the cake in place. Now, if you not going to move this cake around much like travel with it, you can skip the center dowel. So, yes, it goes through the cake boards in the two cakes and anchors in the bottom board. I hope this helps.

My questio is do i make a hole in the cake cards in advance ? I think its skipped in the video this section. Thank you for your help

        1. Nicoletta. Again that depends on the type of board. In some cake circles, you can just push the pointed dowel and it will make a hole in the board as it goes down.
For some boards, I had to make the hole ahead of time.
For example, For most of my wedding cakes, I used MDF boards instead of cake circles so for those I always make the holes in advance.
If in doubt, make the holes ahead of time Just make sure to keep the hole in the center.
