Cinnamon Mocha Hot Chocolate Drink
One of our family favorite drinks in winter is, of course, hot chocolate and what better than to make it a mocha hot chocolate and add a dash of cinnamon. Cinnamon has a way of making those warm drinks extra special; don’t you agree?
Of course, we like our hot chocolate thick and creamy. In truth, we have it all year round. Hot in winter and cold in summer. I make a jar and leave it in the fridge so the kids can have it when they feel the need.

How to make the best Hot Chocolate Mix with Real Chocolate Inside
Thick and Creamy – Tastes Like Vanilla Pastry Cream
We like our hot chocolate thick and creamy so I add just a little cornstarch in the mix. This thickens the hot cocoa making it extra luxurious. Just like you do when you make eggless vanilla pastry cream but of course while you want your hot chocolate thick you still don’t want as thick as Vanilla Pastry Cream. Can you imagine the drinking a glass of pouring vanilla pastry cream? Yes, it’s that good!!
I love to grate some chocolate for extra dusting and dress the rim sometimes too. Just makes it a little extra special. The kids love fancy and this really does give them that fancy.

Let’s talk ingredients and substitutes (Save/Pin)
- Milk – You can use regular dairy milk. For a vegan or no dairy option just switch to almond milk or soy milk. This recipe even works well with coconut milk, though it does have a coconut flavor. I love it but I omit the coffee for myself.
- Hot Chocolate mix – If you love drinking hot chocolate!! Why would you wanna go adding 1 tsp cocoa powder, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp…. etc… every single time you want hot chocolate? The best thing to have on and is, of course, a Cocoa mix!! Not just any cocoa mix….. use my recipe The best homemade hot chocolate mix recipe.
- Cinnamon – The warmth of cinnamon in winter is absolutely heavenly. Don’t want cinnamon? Go ahead and omit it – or try something else. Like garam masala, pumpkin spice, gingerbread spice!!
- Coffee – This is what gives us the mocha flavor so yes, add a little coffee. If you love coffee you can bump it up a bit but coffee can be a bit bitter so taste for sugar. If necessary add more sugar.
