These chocolate marzipan squares are a real treat, especially during the holiday season. They are little bites of heaven that just melt in the mouth made with almonds sugar and topped with chocolate. This simple easy and effortless recipe works great for those last-minute food gift ideas.

As a kid, I grew up eating marzipan by the buckets! Yup! Mom used to take Christmas sweet orders and so we have marzipan in plenty. The best part we had lots of variety.
Yup! Marzipan is supposed to be made with almonds but my mom found that cashew marzipan was the most popular. She would make chocolate marzipan which was one of my favorites. I have a few versions of my own that I hope to share with you over time. So stay tuned.
These make amazing Christmas gift ideas to give family and friends as Christmas treats. They look really impressive in a box. In addition, they are simple and easy to make.

Marzipan - Homemade or store-bought
You can use store-bought Marzipan for these Chocolate marzipan squares. But, marzipan can be easily made at home. I have posted the recipe for my Homemade marzipan recipes as well as everything you need to know in my Tip Thursday series Marzipan 101.
My homemade version is the uncooked version and very effortless to make. So before you go buying Marzipan I suggest you pop over and check my recipe for Marzipan/Almond paste. You will be surprised at how easy it is.

How long do you think these would keep please? thinking of reducing recipe and setting in molds for valentines day
Veena Azmanov
Hey Sam, Yes, you can reduce this recipe. Yes, you can definitely press these into molds as I did here for my Christmas marzipan. Press the marzipan in - then top with melted chocolate. Chill or freeze for a few minutes, then unmold. Let me know how they were.
Ginny
I've always loved marzipan and wondered how to make it. My experience has always been to make figures and shapes and never actually had it in a pan like this. Love it and the chocolate topping.
Veena Azmanov
Thanks Ginny. You are right about shapes and figures. They use to be the Christmas treats back in the day.
Peggy
Very tasty, added some strawberry jam between the layers - thanks for the recipe!
