Easy Chocolate Fudge Balls
These Chocolate Fudge Balls are the easiest little treats you’ll ever make — rich, soft, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate bites made with just five ingredients and about three minutes of microwaving. No double boiler, no waiting overnight, no complicated ganache. Just quick, no-bake fudge rolled into perfect little balls.
I make these when I want something chocolaty but don’t feel like baking, and every time they surprise me with how fast they come together. Mix, chill briefly, roll, done. They’re perfect for the holidays, gift boxes, party platters, and those evenings when you just need a quick chocolate fix without turning on the oven.

These chocolate fudge balls started as a “help, I need something NOW” dessert. One year, I’d promised treats for the kids’ school party and completely forgot until the night before (of course). I didn’t have the time or energy for baking, so I melted chocolate, stirred in condensed milk, rolled them in cocoa and sprinkles… and suddenly I had a tray of “fancy truffles” in under 20 minutes.
Since then, they’ve become my emergency chocolate fix. The kids love rolling the balls (and decorating half the kitchen in the process), and I love that I can dress them up for Christmas, tuck them into gift boxes, or keep a stash in the fridge for those days when only fudge will do.
Why You’ll Love These Fudge Balls
- Just 5 ingredients — chocolate, butter, condensed milk, vanilla, salt.
- Fast — microwave + chill = done.
- No-bake — foolproof for beginners.
- Super customizable — nuts, cocoa, sprinkles, cookies, marshmallows, liqueurs.
- Make-ahead-friendly—they keep well and freeze beautifully.
- Great for gifting — rich, smooth, indulgent, but so easy.

Ingredients and substitutes
- Chocolate – Use good-quality dark chocolate (about 60% cocoa) for the richest flavor. Milk or semi-sweet chocolate also works, but the balls will be sweeter. Avoid chocolate with fillings.
- Condensed Milk – This gives the fudge its smooth, soft texture. For a dairy-free option, use coconut condensed milk.
- Butter – Adds richness and helps the mixture set. Swap for vegan butter or coconut oil if needed.
- Vanilla – Enhances the chocolate flavor. You can also use almond or peppermint extract for variations.
- Sea Salt – Balances the sweetness and makes the chocolate pop. Use regular salt if that’s what you have, or skip it for a sweeter fudge.

Step-by-step: Chocolate fudge balls
- Melt – In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate and butter in 20–30 second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth and glossy.
- Mix – Stir in the condensed milk, then add vanilla and salt. The mixture should be thick, shiny, and fudge-like.
- Chill – Cover and let it sit on the counter for about 2 hours, or chill in the fridge for 45–60 minutes, until firm but scoopable.
Pro tip – If it’s too hard, let it soften at room temperature for a few minutes. - Roll – Scoop about a tablespoon of the mixture and roll it quickly between your palms to form even-sized balls.
- Coat – Roll each ball in cocoa powder, sprinkles, chopped nuts, or any toppings you like. Place on a tray and chill again until set.

Tips for Success
- Don’t overheat the chocolate. Short bursts in the microwave only.
- If the mixture gets too firm, let it sit at room temp for 5–10 minutes.
- Use gloves or cold hands so the fudge doesn’t melt while rolling.
- Chill only until scoopable. Too long = rock-hard, difficult to roll.
- Keep balls uniform for even texture and appearance.
- Coat while slightly tacky so toppings stick easily.

⭐ Troubleshooting
| Problem | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Fudge too soft | Not chilled long enough, butter too warm | Chill 10–15 more minutes |
| Fudge too hard | Over-chilled | Let it sit at room temp until workable |
| Oily mixture | Chocolate overheated | Mix well + let cool, OR re-melt gently |
| Not rolling smoothly | Too warm or too cold | Adjust chill time |
| Balls losing shape | Over-handled | Roll quicker or chill between batches |
