Why are these pinwheels the best appetizers
- Quick and Easy to Make – With frozen puff pastry and simple filling ingredients, these pinwheels come together in minutes, making them perfect for last-minute gatherings or holiday parties.
- Irresistibly Cheesy Flavor – The combination of cream cheese, goat cheese, Parmesan, and shredded white cheese creates a rich and creamy filling that’s packed with savory flavor in every bite.
- Crowd-Pleasing and Versatile – Their bite-sized shape makes them easy to serve and enjoy, while the blend of cheeses and spinach appeals to both kids and adults alike.
- Crispy and Golden Perfection – The puff pastry bakes up beautifully flaky and golden, giving each pinwheel a delightful crunch that complements the creamy filling.

Key Ingredients and Substitutes
- Puff Pastry: Provides the flaky, buttery base for the pinwheels. Substitute with homemade pastry or crescent roll dough for a softer texture.
- Cheese: Goat cheese brings tanginess and depth to the filling. Shredded white cheese offers melty, cheesy goodness. Use mozzarella, Gruyère, or any mild melting cheese you prefer. Parmesan cheese adds a nutty, salty kick. Substitute with Pecorino Romano for a sharper, bolder flavor. Feel free to substitute goat cheese with feta or ricotta, and use any shredded cheese you like, such as cheddar, Gruyère, or Monterey Jack.
- Frozen Spinach: The key green component that balances the richness of the cheese. Substitute with fresh spinach sautéed and drained, or even kale for a heartier alternative.
- Garlic (Optional): Adds a subtle flavor boost. Substitute with garlic powder for a milder taste or omit if preferred.
- Egg (for egg wash): Ensures the pinwheels turn golden and shiny. Substitute with milk or cream for a similar effect.

Step-by-step: Creamy Spinach Pinwheels
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded white cheese, Parmesan, and garlic (if using). Stir in the well-drained spinach, salt, and pepper until smooth and evenly combined.

- Assemble the Spirals: Lay the puff pastry sheet flat on a lightly floured surface. Spread the cheese and spinach mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border along one edge.
- Roll and Slice: Starting from the edge opposite the border, roll the puff pastry tightly into a spiral. Seal the roll by pressing the edge against the border. Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into 1/2-inch-thick slices.
- Arrange & Bake: Place the spirals on the prepared baking tray, leaving some space between them. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Serve: Allow the spirals to cool slightly before serving. They’re delicious and warm and make perfect appetizers or snacks!

These are delicious on their own, but you can serve them with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or a tangy yogurt dip for added flavor.
