I had 3 lbs of Lamb that my husband bought (I never really cook it but he loves it). A lot of the ingredients I didn’t have on hand such as: green cardamoms, coriander or garam masala. I ended up doubling the cumin and put in 1/4 teaspoon of Cayenne since I can’t handle too spicy. I also added coconut cream instead of yogurt and added a bit more water and a drop of coconut cream near the middle of cooking! It turned out amazing!

I am going to make a trip to my local Indian Supermarket so I can make it more authentic next time. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you, Turner, for the lovely feedback. Yes, please do try these with the Indian spices – it is absolutely delicious. If you don’t want it spicy use sweet paprika instead o cayenne pepper so you still have the color and flavor. Thanks

    Hi Veena

I have made two of your delicious curry recipes already: Ground Beef (mince) and Prawns. Wow!!

BUT – I want to make this one – and want to know if I can substitute for all the spices – an amount of (your own recipe) CURRY POWDER – which I worked hard to make a bunch of! All the same ingredients… please reply privately if you must – I want to make this Lamb Curry next weekend!

    Thank you!

    1. Hey Barbara. Thank you for the lovely feedback. I am so happy to hear you are enjoying my recipes. This is a delicious recipe but yes, you can certainly make this with curry powder too. Just replace the spice mix with 3 to 4 tbsp of curry powder instead. I would use 3 tbsp for medium spice or up to 4 tbsp to make it spicier.

Hi Veena, great recipe indeed. I modified it a little by marinating with the ginger & garlic pastes and also moved the turmeric powder, lemon juice and added some yoghurt to the marinade.
    Awesome with roti parathas .

Best lamb curry recipe ever. Better than Rogan Josh or bunny chow. This recipe is a definite keeper. Thanks Veena!

Recipe looks amazing, I’m going to attempt it tomorrow. Can the recipe be adapted to cooking in the slow cooker please?

I made this as exactly as I could (ground cardamom & mace, no pods) and it turned out wonderfully.

  10. I am excited to try out this wonderful recipe today but I have a question. I have a lamb roast(bone in) that I’m going to use. Can I incorporate using the bone in this recipe somewhere to get more flavor? Thoughts?

    1. yes, kate. you can add the bone in the curry and let it simmer. Nothing else needs to be done. Thanks

Thank you so much for this recipe! My family enjoyed this so much I’m making it again two days later. This time I’m using mutton though and once all together transferring it to the slow cooker. Can’t wait to try it.
