These chicken tacos are quick, fresh, and packed with flavor. Juicy seasoned chicken is seared and tossed with sautéed onions and peppers, then piled into warm tortillas with creamy avocado and a light yogurt sauce. Easy enough for a weeknight, but good enough to make again and again.
These are the tacos I make when I need dinner on the table fast, and I know everyone will eat without complaints. The kids love the soft tortillas and creamy toppings, and I love that I can throw everything together in one pan.
It’s one of those meals that feels simple but still hits all the right notes—juicy, fresh, and satisfying.
Why you’ll love this

- Juicy, flavorful chicken
- One-pan recipe
- Fresh and lighter with yogurt sauce
- Easy to customize
Ingredients and substitutes
- Chicken breast works well here when sliced into thin strips. You can also use chicken thighs for a juicier result.
- The seasoning is a simple mix of paprika, cumin, chili powder, garlic and onion powder, oregano, and a little cayenne for heat. You can swap with store-bought taco seasoning if you prefer.
- Tomato paste adds depth and helps coat the chicken.
- Lemon juice brightens everything—lime works just as well.
- Onions, peppers, and mushrooms add texture and flavor. You can skip mushrooms or swap them with zucchini.
- Yogurt sauce keeps things light. Use Greek yogurt or swap with sour cream.
- Avocado spread adds creaminess—use mashed avocado or guacamole.

- Add sauce just before serving
How to serve as a chicken taco bowl
Skip the tortillas and turn this into a simple chicken taco bowl instead. Add a layer of rice to a bowl, then top with the chicken and sautéed vegetables.
Finish with fresh salad, avocado or guacamole, and a generous drizzle of the yogurt sauce. It’s the same flavors, just served as a hearty, no-wrap option.

Made these on a random Tuesday because I needed something quick, and now my kids are already asking when I’m making them again. That yogurt sauce disappeared fast.
That sounds like a successful taco night to me 😄 So glad everyone enjoyed them!
