Can I freeze the Rice Krispies shape i made covered in buttercream. How long will stay or will it be soft when I bring it back to room temperature to decorate with fondant?

    1. Hey Irene. It depends on the weather you have – if it’s hot and humid the buttercream will melt and soak into the Rice Krispies. Ganache might be a better option on warm weather. If you have good weather then all will be ok. You don’t need to freeze it – just let it set in the fridge.

Sorry to bump in again! Can I use cheerios? It is for my son,’s birthday cake and he loves them. Can they replace rice krispies? I am making a space cake and I want to use this for making planets. Please advice. Thanks in advance!!

    1. Yes Mythili, technically you can use any cereal that you can press and hold together. Cornflakes may be very crumbly and not give you a smooth finish and cheerios will become a powder but still, you try to work around it, I’m sure.

How long will the rice crispy treats last for once made & covered in fondant? I want to make some a week in advance but is that too long?

    Hi Veena,

Is Rice Crispy & puffed rice is similar.

    1. Veena Azmanov says:

They are quite similar really. Puffed rice is a bit more soft so you will need to press it more to created a firm base but you can use it!!
