I recently received this book Artisan Cake Company's Visual Guide to Cake Decorating by Elizabeth Marek and have been constantly browsing thru to read it over and over. So fascinating that one book has so much and for every level of cake decorating.

Whether you are at the beginner or advanced level there is something in there for you to learn.
You can tell that the book has been written by someone who has grown into cake decorating by learning it one cake at a time. She has so beautifully shared her own errors and experiences so her readers can benefit from it.
She knows exactly what you need so she gives you the necessary tools to buy as well as DIY at home.
All the basic recipes you need are in there - cake, frosting, fondant, Ganache, modeling chocolate and more.

Beginners will find it useful that she has shared the whole run down for cake preparation right from baking to covering a cake with fondant. She has even shared more than one option of doing things the right way.
One of my favorite parts of the book is Chapter 3 - Elements and Principles of Cake Design.

- She has so beautifully used her knowledge of graphic design to help us understand cake designing a little better.
- Elaborates how the various elements such as - Textures, Lines, Colors, Visual Contrast, Shape, Size and more effect and help balance the overall design of the cake.
- Giving you examples of unsuccessful vs successful design.
- Shared some amazing tips on how to get the best out of your decorating dust, hand painting and achieving high gloss.
My second most favorite part of the book is Chapter 5 - Modeled Figures

She has not just given you an understanding of the figures but step by step pictures and templates so you can achieve the figures with the right size, length, and proportions. Also, included a small chapter on Sugar flowers in Chapter 6, which has a lot of basics that one can use to create more than the ones she has shared.

She has some beautiful Celebration Cake projects in Chapter 7 that explain the decorating process from start to finish. Absolutely gorgeous creations too!

Last and my most favorite part of the book - Chapter 8 - Science of Structure

I absolutely love this chapter because she has explained so well how the structure works so that whatever project you decide to make you have the basic foundation.
She has also provided step by step of a couple of such projects so you can understand better.

In summary
I think the book is an absolute treasure for any cake decorator or cake enthusiast to have. It aims at not just sharing a few projects from start to finish but by sharing the foundation of cake decorating so you can go beyond what this book offers.
In my opinion, this is such a generous contribution from this artist to share her knowledge so willingly. Trust me- the knowledge you get from this book is a lot more valuable than the price you pay for it and not many are willing to share it.
Here's a little more information I found online for you.
