Find the right tool for the right job has always been a challenge especially when you have so many choices and opinions out there. As one who has a big collection myself I thought I'd my opinion, recommendation and tips so you can save some trial and errors as well as money in the long term.

Are you one of those that always message me asking about tools? Don't lie! Recently I've been bombarded with so many questions asking about my cake tools!
You know what? I'm glad you guys ask because it's best to get the right tool then go around just collecting junk. No taking names here but you know who I'm talking about (me - wink wink) I think junk would be the wrong word because I do love cake tools! I love them very very much.
There was a time when I'd buy any tool as long as someone made me believe it would help me improve my cake decorating skills. I'm sure some of you can identify with me on that. Right? Yes?
So over these five years collection this is what I have for sculpting and modelling tools.
That's a lot - I know !

Now don't get me wrong I have loved these tools! I have used them over and over and over and over again (well some I have used only once or twice lol) and Yes if you buy them you may still be very happy with them as well. They sure do work.
You see the yellow ones? This is my third set. I have used them a lot; unfortunately I would keep breaking them so easily.
The pink ones I have used to do my figures and there were really good to do the small sugar figures.
But the reason I write this post is because I have replaced all these tools with something I cannot live without. Really! I CANNOT live without my Sugar Shapers anymore.

Now I won't lie - It took me a while to start using them at first. You know the habit of using your old tools because you are just so use to them.
For a while I kept looking for information online - which of these shapers should I use for what? but guess what? I didn't find any answer to that.
You know why? There is no right or wrong with these Sugar Shapers. You use what works best for you. Think about it?
Someone tell you they love this tool; you buy it but; you don't have the same experience with it. Why? Because we all are different. Some of us are more gentle and some of us have a firmer grip. That's why these work best! You decide which of these you need to use, soft, firm, mini, big - it's your comfort. Now that's amazing to me.
These come in

Yes! I have them all!!
Oh Don't be jealous, you can get them too. You can buy them on Amazon; just click the links above.
Special Offer for you on Sugar Shapers
The lovely Chris Allison of Innovative Sugarworks has given my blog fans a special 10% discount - just use coupon Code Veena10 when you check out and you will get a 10% discount - How cool is that?

And yes they are not cheap compared to the other tools; but I'd rather invest in ONE proper tool that's the best than go digging thru my 100 tools looking for the right tool.
If you are an artist than you know what I mean when I say

So; Wanna know what I have used these on so far? Here are some of my cakes and stuff.

Tree Stump Video Tutorial
I made this cake topper for this Woodland Fairy that I made for the Irish Sugarcraft Cake Show in the beginning of this year. You can watch how I made the tree stump she's sitting on in this video here

I used the Soft tip Sugar Shapers when I modeled this face! yes! I'm not much of a Sugar figure person but ain't she lovely!

I used my sugar shapers to make these cracks before I painted them black and on the ball itself.

Enhance impressions
And yes I used it to enhance the impression on the bottom tier of this Shabby Sheek Wedding Cake as well as the lines to create the cake board.

and to emphasize the impression on the bottom tier on this as well.

Now I'm not going to share all my gallery with you because I use these on almost all cakes in some little way or the other. They are always on my workbench.
As much as this sounds cheeky, to me these are so precious right now. Don't think I can live without them. I barely ever use any other of my sculpting or modeling tools.
Don't forget to save this article on Pinterest for later.
