- 250 grams Ground meat beef, turkey or chicken thighs
- 1 tbsp Cooking oil
- 1/2 Onion chopped fine
- 1 tsp Garlic minced
- 1 tsp Ginger grated
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon powder
- 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
- 1/4 tsp Paprika powder
- 1/4 cup Cilantro / parsley chopped
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 Egg - egg wash
- 1 tbsp Sesame seeds/Nigella seeds to sprinkle optional
Prepare the Filling
Saute onions, ginger, garlic in one tbsp canola oil.
Add ground meat and spices.
Stir the meat well with a spatula to remove lumps.
Cook on medium heat until all the liquid is absorbed, breaking as many large chunks of meat.
Add lemon juice and chopped herbs.
Taste and adjust seasoning - set aside to cool.
Fill the Pastry
Roll chilled puff pastry into a square about 16 x 16 inches.
Cut the square into 12 equal squares.
Place a tablespoon or more of filling a little off center on each square.
Brush egg wash on the edges and fold over.
Use the tines of a fork to seal and mark edges so they look nice as well as won't open during baking.
Place the pastry on a baking tray and into the fridge to chill.
Bake the Puffs
Preheat the oven at 200 C / 400 F.
Brush the meat puffs with egg wash and sprinkle the sesame seeds.
Bake in the preheated hot oven on the middle rack for about 18 to 20 minutes until golden and puffed up.
Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before you serve.
Serve hot - goes well with ketchup.
