I tried Hand Painting on Airbrushed Cake
Have you ever tried hand painting on airbrushed cake? I did this week. I love how it turned out. read more about my first attempt at both airbrushing and hand painting.
Did you see the little video I shared on Instagram on this cake? I was hand painting!!
Can you believe I can hand paint? Yup! Just got to know about it myself. Kinda new to me. NO I never use to draw or hand paint but it’s amazing how I actually enjoyed it this week. I am going to explore the possibility of hand painting on cakes more often. Know what I mean?
Did I tell you that I bought a new Air Brush? Well, just recently and I have been so fascinated with it.. I wish I had more to do and more information on what to do with it.
Hand Painting on Airbrush cakes!!
Do not hand paint on an Airbrush cake!! Not like what I attempted here. If you have a small patch where you need to add more details – perhaps yes! But if you plan to do actually brush painting? Nah!!
I should have used regular white fondant for this cake but I airbrushed it blue.
I loved the shaded blue effect I got from the airbrushing but…. THE COLORS BLEED SO BADLY!!
As I painted it; colors kept blending with the airbrushed blue. So my white daisies weren’t white anymore.
Honestly, I thought once the airbrush colors dry out then the next colors would stay. That’s how it woks on a regular canvas. You put a base coat and let it dry. Then you paint colors and over lap as you go.
However with edible colors they are fresh all the time. So even after the airbrushed blue was dry. When I painted the white daisies… there ended up with the blue form the cake.
If you hand paint on a cake and want to have the over all final color of the canvas to be a base color. I suggest you paint that negative color in! with a brush! YES! with a brush.. Just paint in between all the flowers you already painted.
The birthday girl loved daisies, lavender and rose buds so tried my best to paint those. Still have very shaky and unsure hands which I hope will get better with my future attempts. Over all I must admit I was pleased with my first attempt at hand painting on cakes.
