A Pokemon Cake is a fun cake to make for kids who love online games. Surprisingly it's super fun and easy too! In this post I share details on how I made this cake.

I must say fun making this cake. Pokemon has always been everyone favorite yeah? Obviously you can imagine how excited my own kids must be with me making this cake.
The little girl whose birthday cake I made this for loves Pikachu. The mother gave me full rein on the design. So when I chose this based on the colors and servings she needed she instantly loved it.
I think the most striking features of the Pokemon game is the white and red ball with the black belt and of course the stars. So I decided to keep that for sure.

About this cake
The bottom ball cake
I do have two post dedicated to making the perfect sphere cake!! So this one is as easy as it can get.
- In one post I gave you the best recipe for sphere cake both Vanilla and Chocolate.
- In the second I shared with you three different methods used to make the perfect sphere based on the size of the cake. So check that post - How to make a Perfect Sphere Cake (Ball Cake Tutorial)
For this cake - I used the same method above. But!
I did not make a ball until later. I kept the two halves until I had already covered them with their color of white or red fondant. Once I had both halves covered in fondant. I then assembled the ball together over a center dowel. I used the black fondant belt to cover the seam.
So honestly one of the easiest sphere cakes I've made.

The bottom tier
The bottom tier is using my Simple Moist Chocolate Cake Recipe and Best Homemade Marshmallow Fondant recipe, which I shared last week. I do have a video coming up soon on how I get share edges on my cakes. I will share with you hopefully next week. (fingers crossed)
We'v covered the basics cake stuff in our series Cake Decorating Basics where I have many post related to Basic Cake Decorating, The bottom tier is an extended tier cake and I've discussed the how to in this post.
Don't you just love those sharp edges? Yep, it's my marshmallow fondant recipe on this one.

Airbrushing the bottom cake
The bottom tier is airbrushed to create a more sky like feel, after all we just started summer. I wanted to a bit more than just stars on a blue cake. I have a video on the basics of airbrushing coming soon too! Yup... lots coming soon.
