Knit Inspired Winter Wedding Cake
A Classic Winter Wedding Cake inspired by the knit wear. Nothing says winter better than winter clothing and this cake has it all in plenty. All white cake with the effect of snow and a pop of red Christmas berries and leaves.
My latest wedding cake is this Winter Wedding Cake! All white with just the pop of red! I must say I enjoyed every minute of making this cake. Right from baking to delivery.
One of the most lovelies couples I have had the pleasure of meeting. They wanted to have a winter wedding but they also wanted to celebrate it with their family. However since Israel never really gets enough to snow where they live.. They decided why not have at least their dream wedding cake.
This is the general brief she sent me to design her cake.
she said – Veena I wan a white winter cake but I want it classy and not full of stuff. While I love all those busy wedding cakes that’s not my style. What can you make for me that would be classy and still have the winter effect?
I sent her a few sketches two of which were over her budget and the third was this ! She loved it but with a few changes.
She had a big winter wedding cake in mind with white poinsettias and red roses on a white wedding (but the budget was fairly tight). The size was important so she didn’t want to reduce the size of the cake. But we worked on an option that would be just as gorgeous as the original design.
The budget did accommodate a five tier wedding cake.. had to be five tiers..that was her dream.. a tall wedding cake! Trust me if she had the budget she’d make it much taller.
And it had to be white!! Nothing else! even the leaves and flowers had to be white. Lucky for me she agreed to have the red berries on the cake and middle tier.
The Cake Flavors
I love when I get an order for cakes that have exotic flavors. I do enjoy the process of baking my cakes. That is why I can share with you all these awesome recipes that I create and love to offer my customers. The fall weather grants access to lots of possibilities with the nice old weather. Most of the ones I offered her are from my calculated Recipe collections. But as you know there are plenty of recipes on this blog that are all free.
- The bottom tier is my White Wedding Cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream.
- The hexagon is my Classic Vanilla Cake (oil based)
- The second and third double barrel is Coconut cake with Coconut cream filling, frosted with Swiss Meringue and
Blueberry Cream Cake with blueberry Filling and Swiss Meringue Buttercream.
- The top tier is my Chocolate Fudge Cake with Chocolate Praline filling and chocolate ganache.
The Snow Effect!!
This snow is made with just royal icing. Yup! I shared a few progress pictures with you when I shared last years Winter Theme Cake with a tutorial for the Fantasy Poinsettia. It’s really simple and easy too!
The Cake Topper
A personalized cake topper can be very expensive and not one that fits in everyone’s budget! But these simple wooden cake toppers are very inexpensive and pretty. They come in a lot of variety and are feather weight!!
The Icicles ?
You remember my Christmas Candle Cake last year? I share the tutorial on how to hand paint the Christmas Poinsettia Flower? That cake was the inspiration for this. She loved it so much so I had to make it on this cake. It looks so good and it’s just a mold!!
The Knit Texture molds !
What says winter better than winter clothes? knit textures? I only had one knit texture mold that I purchased on ebay a while back. If I had to use that I would have to use a lot more effort!! It’s kinda smaller and not as detailed. So I would have had to work on patches!!
But just in time for this wedding I got my package from Marvelous Molds to try their new Knit molds!! The gods must have been happy with me because it was such perfect timing too! This is the full Marvelous Molds Knit Mold Collection!! And I HAVE IT!!
The original final design for the cake had only the 4th tier with knit wear. The bottom was suppose to be a floral texture mat. But I was so in love with the molds I used quite a few of them for this cake.!!
The are so easy to use. Just like the other onlays mats. The size is perfect 4 inches tall so you don’t work with aches and patches. If you are cake decorator you know valuable that is. I hate trying to cover seems.
The best part of all Marvelous Molds onlays are that they connect beautifully!! I hate when I have seems where they do not belong. These are the two I used on this cake and I am in LOVE with them.
This is what I used on the bottom tier. Can you see how beautifully the two pieces join together? Once they are on the cake you don’t see the seems! I love that.
This is called The Trinity Knit Simpress Mold
Believe it or not!! This is my favorite mold. I LOVE this one! It’s the Classic Knit Simpress
- For double barrel border I used this called Cable Knit Cake Border
- And the top cake has this border – Ribbed Knit Cake Border
