Buttercream Ruffle Cake Tutorial

A buttercream ruffle cake is the perfect cake for a woman of any age. Most women have a soft spot for ruffles and while they may not fancy wearing them they do love them on their cakes. Here's how I made my ruffles on this buttercream cake.

Happy birthday to.... Me!!!  Yes it was my birthday recently and thank you all so much for your lovely wishes and support. Truly appreciate it so much.

Well, I made this buttercream ruffle cake for my birthday. Now, as always, my kids think that since it's a cake for the house they can be a part of it. Why not, right?

Cake flavors & frosting

• Cake - I've used my Light and fluffy vanilla cake recipe here but you can use any of the recipes I have on under my section cake recipes.
• Frosting - I am using a stiff Velvet Buttercream recipe. Since you need stiff buttercream for this I would also recommend my stiff buttercream perfect for piping flowers. 

Video tutorial

I wanted to show you how I pipe my buttercream ruffles, so I did take a video. I did the first top half on video after which I had to include my son in the piping.

So the center downwards was me holding his hand. Which means he held the piping bag and we piped together.
Of course, he's been telling everybody (EVERYBODY!!) that he made mama's birthday cake. Precious!!
