We've come to make it a habit to have some smoothies for breakfast. My Rhea often does not eat breakfast well but she does love her smoothies. So, I'm always looking for ways to make her drink fun and interesting. Her favorites are banana blueberry, strawberry banana, mango chai, banana dates, pineapple coconut, and cantaloupe orange.
This simple and easy smoothie uses fresh strawberries in the season with some frozen berries.
Why make this smoothie?
- First, it's delicious and healthy using fresh strawberries and all natural ingredients.
- Secondly, it's also simple and easy to make. Just blend all the ingredients together, literally.
- And, it's a quick and healthy mid-day snack or breakfast.
Ingredients and substitutes
- Fruit - In this one, I am using just berries. But, banana is also a great addition to berries.
- Yogurt - I'm using homemade Greek yogurt but you can also use just regular yogurt. Almond and coconut yogurt would also be delicious.
- Honey - Berries are naturally sweet with a slight tartness to them. I love them just the way they are. But my Rhea does need a little honey to mask the tart flavor. I highly recommend that you blend without the honey and add it only if necessary.
- Chia - This is a great addition to smoothies because it thickens the smoothie and also makes it more wholesome.
The color of your smoothie will reflect the berries you use. I had more fresh strawberries and frozen raspberries in mine.
Step by step instructions
- Blend all the ingredients except the honey in a blender until smooth.
- Taste and adjust for sweetness. Add as much honey as necessary.
- Pour into individual serving glasses and garnish with fresh fruit or mint leaves.

Recipe Notes
- Use fresh or frozen berries
- The color of your smoothie will be determined by the berries you use. I use more strawberries and so my smoothie has a pretty light pink. More raspberries will give you a deeper rose pink.
- You can use regular or Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is thicker and produces a thicker consistency for the smoothie
- You can also add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to this smoothie.
- This smoothie will keep in the fridge for 2 to 3 days. Give it a good stir again when ready to serve.
- I like to use my Ninja blender so the berries turn into a nice smooth smoothie. Some blenders may leave berry seeds in the smoothie.
