I love creating wood effect on cakes, cake boards and edible decorations. I think Tree stump cake or cakes are so cool. I’ve have made a few recently and in many different variations which I will show you below.
I made this one most recently. It’s a hand painted tree stump cake so you do not need an airbrush. Most often you get people who say they don’t have an airbrush so this is a nice and easy way to create a tree stump effect with just hand painting.
The Tree stump cake has been one of the requested tutorials from some of you. And I know that many of you do not have an Airbrush yet. So I decide to show you how I made the tree stump but without an airbrush which brings me to this cool tutorial – Hand painted tree stump cake.
In this video I have shown you how to use a texture mat and how to enhance the wood effect but I have shown you how to hand paint the wood effect even if you do not have a texture mat. Yes, so you don’t really need a texture mat. The hand painting itself does the job so well. Of course adding the texture only help bring it out better.

As I said before there are many different ways to make the wood effect on cake. You can make it using a texture mat and you can create the effect with a simple dresden tool. I used my Sugar Sharpers for this – you know now I cannot do without them.
This is a simple block of wood that again uses the Hand Painted effect. And you can use this technique for cake boards too!
