Halloween Brain Spill Head Cake
This Halloween Brain Spill Head cake was made for a 16th Birthday celebration. The cake Moist Chocolate cake with Vanilla frosting and fondant accents.
Wish you all the a very Happy Halloween? This is my Halloween Cake!! I know!!
If you’ve been following me for a while you know I like things pretty!! Halloween cakes are not my forte or preference. I cannot do these!! I cannot do blood… and I had to do this cake!!
Well, I had a 16 birthday celebration commission and the girl wanted a Halloween cake; which was great but when she explained what and how she wanted I almost fell off my chair.
We don’t really celebrate Halloween here in Israel. We celebrate some thing similar called Purim around March. It’s similar to Halloween just not necessarily spooky and gross like this cake. People dress in super hero and favorite cartoon or you know those kinda things.
So this was a customer who had taken a few cakes from me over the last few years. Here daughter’s birthday is on Halloween and she has taken cakes from me before too! But this year she wanted to celebrate Halloween with here friends and they decided they wanted a brain spill Head cake. Deep sigh!! yeah I know.
Well of course I know I could do the head and I can do the brain!! The only thing I was most concerned was the blood part. But guess who came to the rescue? My Aadi!! Yep.. he’s crazy about Halloween and he loves this gross stuff. I have not clue where he gets it from..! Kids..!!
So when I finished making the cake and it was time to add the blood.. he jumped in and helped me. He took the brush and we both painted the blood. I must say he was excited about it and I was uncomfortable with both.. adding the blood and he’s excitement..! Kids!!!
A little cake details for you in case you attempt this cake.
The cake is my simple moist chocolate cake with Velvet Vanilla Buttercream and Fondant.
The brains are also fondant just rolled into long thick plain ropes that I swirled into the brain shape.
The blood is Strawberry Jam with red food coloring. I use Magic color extra red. The jam gives you those little clumps that work as dries blood cloths (sorry sounds gross I know) I used thick paint brushesto pain the blood.
The cake is three 10 x 13 rectangular cakes. I just printed a picture of a skull from the web as template and used that to get the proportions right.
The deep cuts are made with my Sugar Shapers.
Customer reaction to my this brain spill head cake
So, finally we did it and when Mary came to take the cake she was horrified…. and said.. eeeeeaw.. bu here daughter was like — Oh my god!! Awesome.. my friends are going to love it!! Thank you!
Mary whispered in my ears… are we getting old? I hate it but in a nice way.. you know you did a great job on the cake but … I won’t eat it and I can’t look at it. So I told her I felt exactly the same as her but like her my Aadi was excited too! It’s the kids not us!!
