Decorating cookies with Fondant and Royal icing – Christmas Tree cookie, Christmas cane cookie, Santa glove cookies, Santa Boots, Snowman cookie, Christmas bell cookie and Christmas Star cookie.
Here are a few cookies I decorated for Christmas.

To decorate my cookies in fondant I like to paste the cookie stick on the surface held with a little cookie dough.
I like how the raise cookie gives a 3D effect when I decorate them with fondant.
Of course if I choose to decorate the cookies in Royal Icing then its the usual flat surface with or without stick.
I usually brush the cookie stick with egg wash, that way they stick to the cookie like glue, and do not fall off the stick when the kids are eating.
To place the stick, I prefer to chill the cookies for 15 minutes so they hold their shape well.
Then just place my hand on the cookie and slide the cookie stick under, as shown here.

Decorating Christmas Cookies with Royal Icing
Outline the cookies and make sure you wait for at least an hour before you flood them. That way you can be sure they will not over flow.
If you have to flood the cookies with more than one color, as in the case of the cane here, do not over flood the first color (red). That way when you add the second color (white stripes) the cookie will not over flow..
