Cake Frame for easy gravity defying cakes
Have you noticed that I have not one, yes not one gravity defying cake in my gallery. You know why, I have no clue on how to build cake structures. I mean I have taken online classes that show me what I need.
I have a few paid classes that show me how to do these structures. They go something like this. You will need 1/2 rod with 1/2 inch flange with 1/4 inch reducer with three couplers at 90 degrees then 45 degrees and then 90 degrees again and……
And another class that says use the 1/2 inch PVC pipe with 1/2 inch nuts and the 1/4 inch screws and don’t forget the threader.
No wait.. what ? 1/2 inch what and 1/4 inch what — that don’t make sense. I’m always lost.
I could watch the class ten times over and still not get that structure right. I’m just not the hardware type of girl. And I have no one to help me with this. Yeah hubby is way too busy with his own stuff. So by default we tell our customers no gravity defying cakes.
Ahhh So sad. I know. Well, but I really did not see myself with a electric drill in hand.
But then the lovely Dawn Butler came to the rescue. Please tell me you know Dawn Butler?
Well she’s the awesome lady that created the Dinkydoodle Airbrush. Yeah that ones still on my wish list. But if you ever need to get an Airbrush that’s the one to buy. You’ll never regret it.
I have seen a few of Dawn’s airbrush classes and oh that woman is the best teacher ever!! She is so detailed and explains so well. I think hers were the only classes I never forward or skip.
OK, back the the cake frame. Well Dawn has shown in some of her classes how to build these structures so she knows exactly how people like me feel being left out not able to do these cakes. And she created Cake Frame. I love this woman. Simply amazing at every level.
My Cake Frame is still not here but I am already excited about it; so I shared it on my Facebook page. It had the best reach ever of 70000 plus, more than 8000 people clicked and so many like me went and got it too.
So I decided to make sure you guys on my blog know about it too. Can you imagine making a gravity defying cake and not having to deal with all those nuts and bolts and screws and threaders and … or what ever.
What is Cake Frame? –
Here’s what it says on their website and there is honestly no better way to explain it.
CakeFrame is a revolutionary food grade armature that allows you to easily build the internal structure for cakes. Think of it like Meccano for cakes! An internal structure is needed when you want to make anything other than a traditional stacked cake. Think balancing, gravity defying, inverted tier, chandelier, character, novelty or traditional cake designs.
Traditionally, if you wanted to make a cake like any of the below, that would require the use of plumbing supplies like metal or plastic piping, nuts, bolts, drills, screws, mdf for the cake board (which is toxic!), all things that are not food safe and should not be in cakes!
CakeFrame makes structural cakes achievable for the home baker as well as increasing the creative possibilities for more advanced cake decorators.
What can you make with it? –
Check out these awesome cakes that are used just as an example for us to start with. And all this can be done with just the basic starter kit.
And here’s the best part.
How much does it cost?
Well the starter kit cost £ 39.99 and it includes everything that you can create the above 10 cakes structures. And I believe there is a 40 page booklet that will help you put all these together too. Personally for me this is an awesome price if I can do a cake with it over and over again.
This starter kit includes the following:
1 x 10″ Round Base Board
1 x 6″ Round Platform
1 x 4″ Round Platform
2 x Single Angled Joint
2 x Elbow Joint
6 x Connector
12 x Baking Cap
4 x Collar
2 x Lock Nut
4 x 10cm Long Rod
2 x 5cm Medium Rod
2 x 2.5cm Small Rod
1 x Long Foundation
1 x Short Foundation
2 x Collared Adaptor
2 x Plain Adaptor
Where can I buy and what should I buy?
Well my suggestion would be to buy the starter kit first that comes with everything you need. After that you can add on it things that you need for more specific cakes. You can buy the Cake Frame here on their website.
As a suggestion I would advise you to visit and like their Facebook page. Why?
Well, Lots of people are using and posting their cakes on there so there is lot of current information and more designs coming in.
Here is their Facebook page – Cake Frame ltd.
I am so anxiously waiting to receive my Cake Frame. I will share pictures with you on my Facebook page and any cake I make as well of course.
Enjoy your Cake Frame. If you do buy it let me know and definitely share it with Dawn on her Facebook page. She loves to see people use her products.
