My name is Veena and I am the face behind this blog.
You probably also know my blogs by their former names Veena’s Art of Cakes and A Homemade Chef which I have now combined into my name blog Veena Azmanov.
My passion is cake decorating and I own a small cake business from home. I specialize in Wedding Cakes but I do love the occasional Sculpted and Novelty cakes. I love creating new cake designs and I adore sugar flowers.
I love Food !! Both eating and cooking. When I’m not decorating a cake you will find me creating delicious food for my family and my blog.

I also love helping upcoming cake decorators and home makers in helping them achieving their goals. So I do blog quite a bit on Cake Business Tips, Blogging Tips like how to start a blog and how to make money monetizing your blog just sharing your passion like me.
A little background
I was born in Mumbai, India but I’ve lived most of my adult life overseas. I married my wonderful husband Ziv and we relocated from the US to Israel about 10 years ago.
My last job was traveling and working for Singapore Airlines as a flight attendant for 10 years. These were the best years of my life. I traveled a lot.
Academically, I have two degrees and an MBA. My first degree is in English literature and my second was Marketing. My job with Singapore Airlines involved interaction with people on a daily basis.
I have used a lot of what I have learned in my own business and come to where I am today. That is why you will also get a lot of my blog post related to Business and Blogging.
Meet my family
My husband Ziv
An incredibly patient and calm person. Very supportive and helpful. Often he will be the one delivering my cakes for me.
By profession – he is a Consultant / CEO for start-up companies – meaning he helps new start up companies start their business. Either by just consultation or by joining them as a CEO. Helps them start the company, define their strategy, help them raise money and then once they get up and about he moves on to the next project. Quite a stressful job really but amazingly he’s always calm.
My son Aadi
This is my heartbeat Aadi is now 9 (2016) and in the 4th grade. He is a foodie like me.
He loves meat and desserts! He is a great taste tester to have around.
He does not really like cooking much any more and calls himself my tasting chef.
So if I need to taste something I have to go to him or he get very upset that I told dada to taste not him..!
So yeah he loves food and we have to make a conscious effort to make him aware of good food eating habits. Though he’s a smart kid and had good self control. He use to love sausages until he saw a video on you tube about how sausages are made.
NO we don’t make sausages anymore since.
My little Rhea
I call her my little twinkle. She’s now 7 (2016) and is the happiest person to be around.
She is a child with special needs and has delayed development both in motor and metal skills.
So while she’s actually 7 she’s more like a 5 year old mentally.
She loves dancing and signing. She’s very thin and while she does eat she usually will pick the stuff that is the least in calories.
Her dietitian is never happy with her food habits because she is always below her curve when it comes to weight.
My food journey
I love food!! Yes! I love food very much and I have an appetite for almost anything. I love cooking food and I love photographing food too!
Food photography is my most recent hobby and I’m enjoying it so much. I love fine dining and often I will set an elaborate dinner table at home to give my family the fine dinning experience. Makes the kids feel so special.
I have a sweet tooth and I love desserts and if it hadn’t to be for my waist I’d be eating desserts all the time (honest!!)
When it comes to desserts I love experimenting new recipes but I also love the classic desserts like Apple or Pecan pie and often I will cherish those old recipes and let them be the way they are. You the old saying – never change a winning formula?
But I do love creating new twist and simplifying food to meet the current modern lifestyle.
The mom kitchen
As a mom I love getting my kids involved in the kitchen. That’s the only time I actually tolerate some mess. Rhea loves to cook like me. So often you will find little hand in my blog pictures. I love those. I hope you do too.
The working mom
Yes,! I am a working mom. And though I work in my pajamas at home; I still do have deadlines and time constraints. I have to deliver cakes and I do teach cake decorating classes and workshops. Late nights are a common occurrence and so in ‘not enough sleep’.
I do have a blog post on Time management of an effective cake decorator and I do discuss my time management.
My food style
Well, if you look at my recipes you will see I love SIMPLE. I love creating recipes that I can make on a daily basis. So mostly quick and easy, 15 minute meals / 30 minute meals are my top priority. Having said that I do love the slow cooking and elaborate desserts too. And you see you will get a little or a lot of all these too.
This blog is about sharing with you my food, so all the recipes here are food I feed my family. I do not just make recipes especially for the blog or just because it’s a trend. I love trend but if I’m not feeding my family something I’m not sharing it with you.
Bottom line if I share the recipe with you, I know it works. I usually make a dish more than once before I plan to add it to the blog. So often on a single post you may get images of that food made more than once.
A balance diet
I don’t have a slim waist. I do wish I would weigh a few pounds lighter but I do not believe in counting my calories. I do believe we have to find a good balance in our diet. So while the we need good salads on the table to feed our body we also need good desserts to feed the soul.
Again I do not count calories butI will try and keep it healthy with my food pairing and ingredients.
For example I will often do simple changes to our daily diet – switch the canola or olive oil with coconut oil and I do make baked oven fries instead of deep fried and I do make egg-less custard instead of using egg yolks. And I do make turkey burgers instead of fat loaded beef burgers.
As a mom I do believe my job is to educate the kids in the proper eating habits and in understanding their food. In understand what balance diet means. Agree?
Blog Advertising and Affiliate
This blog started off as a personal blog with me sharing just a little of my cake and food journey. Today it has become a place visited by over 300K visitors every month. Thank yo so much.
Having said that when you move from just a personal to a business blog like this; maintaining a blog can be hard work, time consuming and often expensive. In order to keep most of my tutorials and recipes free I do need to advertise and rely on affiliate sales.
A affiliate sales is a commissions based marketing where I share with you the items I use and recommend using a special link. If you buy the item using my link I get a small commission that helps me keep maintain my site. My affiliate links do not affect the price you pay for a product. In fact sometimes I am able to negotiate better deals and rates for my blog members.
I only recommend products, classes, tutorials that I use! Nothing on my site is just shared because it will make me money. I stand by my recommendations and reviews. If I suggest a class it is because I have seen the tutorial. If I recommend anything that I have not used or have not seen I will let you know. Often I will tell you about a product based on my friends suggestions but I will let you know the same as well.
